To name the Department of Veterans Affairs community-based outpatient clinic in Gaylord, Michigan, as the "Navy Corpsman Steve Andrews Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Clinic.

Abstract

This bill honors Navy Corpsman Steve Andrews by naming a Department of Veterans Affairs clinic after him.

Summary

The Department of Veterans Affairs community-based outpatient clinic located at 2782 S. Ostego Avenue in Gaylord, Michigan will be renamed the "Navy Corpsman Steve Andrews Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Clinic". 


Steve Andrews grew up in Gaylord before joining the Navy and serving in Guam as a hospital corpsman and in Vietnam as a medic with the Marines. His actions in combat earned him the Navy Commendation Medal and the Purple Heart. After leaving the military he served two terms in the Michigan House of Representatives as the representative for the 106th District. He also built a successful business and dedicated considerable time to community service.

PRO & CON

PRO: The bill honors the memory of Steve Andrews, a veteran who grew up in Gaylord, Michigan. Andrews joined the U.S. Navy in 1967, serving first in Guam and then in Vietnam, where his service earned him the Navy Commendation Medal and a Purple Heart. After his service he became a successful businessman, a two-term member of the Michigan House of Representatives, and a dedicated community servant.


CON: There is an as-yet-to-be determined cost associated with changing the signage and administrative paperwork to reflect the name change
